Donald Trump has decided to temporarily delay the implementation of new tariffs following an unexpected conversation with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. This information is confirmed by The Wall Street Journal.

The meeting, which took place without the participation of trade advisor Peter Navarro, an active proponent of tariff policy, allowed Bessent and Lutnick to convince Trump of the necessity for a 90-day pause in the imposition of tariffs. According to WSJ sources, it was precisely Navarro’s absence that enabled this conversation to occur without his opposition.
After the discussion, Trump announced the suspension of tariffs on his account on the Truth Social platform. Shortly thereafter, Bessent and White House spokesperson Caroline Livitt addressed the press, emphasizing the team’s cohesion.
“Cohesion of work” – this is how Lutnick characterized the situation, although he did not confirm the details of the publication.
In contrast, Navarro responded with sharp criticism of the WSJ article, calling it “a fabrication of anonymous sources seeking to sow discord.”
