Return of Hostages and a Step Towards Peace
According to Witkoff, the recent return of officer Ran Gwili, who was the last Israeli hostage in Gaza, marked a turning point for the entire region. On October 7, Gwili went into the Gaza Strip to save lives, and now his remains have returned home to his family.
“Yesterday was a historic day. The last remaining hostage in Gaza, officer Ran Gwili, was returned home to his family in Israel. On October 7, he went to save lives, and yesterday he returned to rest in peace in Israel,” wrote Stephen Witkoff on social media platform X.
Witkoff added that along with the return of Gwili’s remains, Israel had previously received the bodies of 27 other deceased captives and had also freed 20 living hostages. He stated that this closes a painful chapter in history and opens the way to a future where peace and prosperity prevail, rather than war and destruction. He emphasized that U.S. President Trump and the entire team are committed to achieving lasting peace in the region.
The Next Phase of the Plan for Gaza
On January 15, the United States announced the transition to a new phase of implementing President Donald Trump’s plan to cease hostilities in the Gaza Strip. This phase includes the disarmament of Hamas, the reconstruction of devastated areas, and the establishment of a Palestinian administration that will operate under U.S. supervision. These measures are expected to contribute to stability and the gradual restoration of trust between the conflicting parties.
