Law Enforcement’s Operation and the Search of the Bitcoin Terminal
After the victims reported to the police, Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Haward organized a task force. Deputy Police Chief Pulliam and Officer Gray quickly gathered information about the incident and involved Investigator David Lampman in the case. In collaboration with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant for the Bitcoin terminal was obtained.
Law enforcement opened the Bitcoin terminal using construction tools and discovered $31,900 inside. Among this amount were the funds belonging to the victimized family. The money was immediately seized and placed under the control of Jasper County authorities pending the completion of formal confiscation procedures.
The Investigation Continues, Suspects Unidentified
So far, the identities of the perpetrators remain unknown. Authorities note that investigations into such cases are complicated by the anonymity of cryptocurrency transactions. Officials emphasize that similar scams involving Bitcoin terminals are becoming increasingly common.
“When scammers try to deceive our citizens, we act quickly and decisively,” Sheriff Haward stated.
The sheriff also thanked his team and colleagues from Hardin County for their effective collaboration and stressed the importance of vigilance among residents regarding phone and online scammers. He urged citizens not to trust threats and always verify information received from strangers.
It is worth noting that in the U.S., the issue of security concerning the use of Bitcoin terminals is increasingly coming to the forefront. In particular, the Spokane City Council in Washington State recently supported an initiative to ban such terminals in the city.
