Law enforcement officials have detained a 50-year-old man suspected of murdering police captain Oleg Zakarenko in the city of Sloviansk on March 19. According to preliminary information, the suspect had a prior conviction and was absent without leave from a military unit.

Details of the Detention and Special Operation
Detectives from the criminal investigation department, along with special unit KORD fighters and dog handlers, conducted a thorough search of the area where the suspect might have been hiding. As a result of these actions, the criminal was apprehended. During the arrest, material evidence was seized, including a firearm.

Criminal Qualification and Possible Punishment
According to the police, a criminal proceeding has been opened under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Article 348 (murder of a law enforcement officer), Article 262 (theft or appropriation of firearms), and Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons). If the suspect’s guilt is proven in court, he faces a penalty of imprisonment for a term of 15 years or life imprisonment. Necessary investigative actions are currently being conducted to gather evidence in this case.
