Steel production in Ukraine fell by over 25% in April 2026

In April 2026, metallurgical enterprises in Ukraine significantly reduced steel production by 25.3% compared to April 2025, producing 517 thousand tons against 692 thousand tons last year. Compared to March of this year, when 702 thousand tons were produced, the decline is 26.3%.

Global steel production dynamics in April 2026

According to Worldsteel data, in April 2026, most countries in the top ten increased steel production compared to last year. The exceptions were China and Russia, which recorded a decline in output.

The top ten countries by steel production in April of this year included:

  • China — 83.63 million tons (-2.8% compared to April 2025);
  • India — 13.83 million tons (+3.9%);
  • USA — 7.16 million tons (+9.4%);
  • Japan — 6.62 million tons (+0.3%);
  • South Korea — 5.25 million tons (+4.8%);
  • Russia — 5.02 million tons (-12.4%);
  • Turkey — 3.29 million tons (+9.4%);
  • Germany — 3.23 million tons (+9.5%);
  • Brazil — 2.72 million tons (+2.8%);
  • Vietnam — 2.13 million tons (+4%).

Global steel production in April 2026 decreased by 1.9% compared to April 2025 — to 153.45 million tons. The largest decline was observed in Iran, where steel production fell by 45.7% to 1.8 million tons.

Ukraine’s indicators for four months and for 2025

In the period from January to April 2026, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises produced 2.25 million tons of steel, which is 7.4% less than in the same period of 2025 (2.43 million tons). During this period, Ukraine ranked 24th in the global steel production ranking.

Globally, steel production from January to April 2026 decreased by 2% — to 613.32 million tons.

In the entire year of 2025, Ukraine produced 7.41 million tons of steel, which is 2.2% less than in 2024 (7.58 million tons). This allowed the country to rank 21st in the global ranking. At the same time, in 2025, the total steel production volume in 70 countries worldwide amounted to 1.8 billion tons, which is also 2% less than in 2024.
