Slovak Companies Continue Supplying Weapons to Ukraine Despite Fico’s Policy

Slovak private defense companies are actively supplying weapons to Ukraine, despite the political rhetoric of Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico and his friendly relations with Russian President Putin. While the official position of the government is aimed at limiting military support, arms exports from Slovakia reached 1.15 billion euros in the past year, accounting for about 1% of the national economy. This figure is double that of 2023 and ten times greater compared to the period before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine.

Weapons and Technologies Arriving at the Front

Slovak companies are engaged in the production of 155mm ammunition, Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzers, target detection systems, as well as electronic warfare and modern communication technologies. Most of this production is officially sold to Western partners, who independently determine the end user, including Ukraine.

Official Support and New Aid Package

The Slovak Ministry of Defense emphasizes that state assistance to Ukraine is limited to non-lethal support, including the supply of electricity and other critical resources. At the same time, private enterprises are not prohibited from entering into export contracts for the sale of weapons and military equipment.

Furthermore, Bratislava intends to transfer the 14th package of non-lethal aid to Kyiv in the near future. This will include equipment for humanitarian demining, engineering supplies, and other essential resources to support Ukrainian forces.
