Severe Frosts of Up to -30º Expected in Ukraine with Red Level of Danger Announced

At the beginning of February, a sharp drop in air temperature to minus 30 degrees Celsius is expected in Ukraine, corresponding to the red, level III danger.

Sharp Cold Snap to Affect Most Regions

According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the most significant drop in temperature is forecasted from February 1 to 3. At night, except for the Zakarpattia region and the southern parts of the country, temperatures may fall to minus 20-27 degrees. Particularly low temperatures are expected in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Sumy, Poltava, and Kharkiv regions.

In the capital, overnight temperatures may drop to minus 20-25 degrees, while during the day they will remain between minus 15-22 degrees. Meteorologists warn that such weather conditions may negatively impact the operation of energy and utility services, as well as cause disruptions in the functioning of road, rail, and electric transport.

Warnings for Drivers and Pedestrians

In addition to severe frosts, dense fog with visibility ranging from 200 to 500 meters is forecasted for January 29 in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. As a result, a yellow level of danger has been announced for drivers and pedestrians.

“At night, except for Zakarpattia and the southern part of the country, temperatures will drop to minus 20-27º,” the forecast states.

The State Emergency Service urges citizens to increase their attention and caution on the roads and to be prepared for possible difficulties in daily life and transport due to extreme weather conditions.
