Satoshi Nakamoto’s Vanishing Statue Stolen in Lugano — Reward Announced

A unique statue dedicated to Bitcoin’s creator Satoshi Nakamoto has disappeared from the Chiani Park in the Swiss city of Lugano. The organizers of the initiative confirmed that the artwork, which symbolized the anonymity and collective identity of the Bitcoin community, was stolen by unknown individuals.

Reward for Return and Uniqueness of the Sculpture

The city authorities of Lugano announced a reward of 0.1 BTC (equivalent to approximately $14,000 in August 2025) for any information that helps recover the statue. The “Vanishing Statue of Satoshi,” created by Italian artist Valentina Piccozzi, is made of stainless steel and corten blocks. Due to its unique design, the appearance of the figure changes depending on the angle, creating an illusion of disappearance that emphasizes the mystery of Nakamoto’s identity and the concept of “we are all Satoshi.”

“You can steal our symbol, but you will never steal our souls,” the organizers wrote.

The Project and Its Significance for the City

The organization Satoshigallery, which initiated the creation of the sculpture and implements similar projects in 21 cities worldwide, confirmed the theft and emphasized its determination to continue its mission despite the incident. The statue was unveiled in October 2024 in front of the Chiani Villa as part of the Plan B forum — an annual event co-organized by the city of Lugano and the stablecoin issuer Tether. The realization of the concept took a year and a half, while the actual production lasted three months.

Lugano’s mayor Michele Folletti emphasized that this artistic object not only pays tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto but also symbolizes the city’s commitment to digital innovation and Lugano’s role as one of Europe’s leading blockchain centers.

This is not the only example of honoring the anonymous creator of Bitcoin: in 2021, a bronze statue with a mirrored face was unveiled in Budapest, allowing each viewer to see themselves in it, highlighting the universality and anonymity of Satoshi Nakamoto.

It is worth noting that it was previously reported that crypto lawyer James Murphy filed a lawsuit against the DHS demanding the disclosure of Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity.
