A satirical theatrical production titled ‘Luigi: The Musical’ took place in San Francisco, quickly becoming a true sensation. The main characters of the show are Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), rapper P. Diddy, and Luigi Mangione—figures who have found themselves at the center of high-profile criminal scandals.

A Musical that Satirizes Contemporary Crises
The plot of the musical unfolds in a fictional cell at New York’s Metropolitan Detention Center, where the trio—FTX cryptocurrency exchange founder Sam Bankman-Fried, accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare executive Luigi Mangione, and rapper P. Diddy (Sean Combs), who is also facing human trafficking charges—become cellmates. This storyline references real events from December 2024, when they were simultaneously held in the same detention facility.
Tickets for the premiere at Taylor Street Theatre (49 seats) sold out within a day. Such demand prompted the organizers to schedule additional performances, including a major show at The Independent on July 13, where up to 500 attendees are expected.
Sharp Satire and Audience Reaction
According to the script, Sam Bankman-Fried, portrayed by actor Andre Margatini, takes the stage in a TED Talk style and ironically mocks the Silicon Valley phenomenon. In the musical number ‘Bay Area Baby,’ he refers to himself as the ‘golden child of Palo Alto’ and suggests to the prison guard to ‘tokenize incarceration.’
“I think we are all quite interested in systems in general. We talk about healthcare, but also about technology and entertainment,” commented lead actor Johnny Stein for CNN.
Despite the scandalous nature of the chosen characters, the performance received positive feedback from the audience, who greeted it with applause. According to The San Francisco Chronicle, each of the characters has become a symbol of larger issues: SBF represents bankruptcy in the crypto industry, Mangione symbolizes failure in the healthcare system, and P. Diddy embodies the dark side of show business.
It is also known that SBF and P. Diddy once shared the same lawyer during their time in prison. As of today, Sam Bankman-Fried is in a low-security Los Angeles prison, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons predicts that he will remain incarcerated until December 14, 2044.
