Russia Intensifies Attacks on Ukraine’s Ports and Railways: Government Implements Non-Military Defense

Russia is ramping up strikes on Ukrainian port and railway infrastructure, attempting to isolate Ukraine from access to ports and frontline territories. This was stated by the Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Oleksii Kuleba, while commenting on the increase in attacks on logistics facilities.

Targets of Attacks and Ukraine’s Response

According to Kuleba, Ukraine’s logistics component has become one of the main targets for the enemy. The aggressor aims to deprive Ukraine of connections to ports, the Donetsk region, and frontline areas. Currently, the Ukrainian railway infrastructure is subjected to about ten shellings every night, and attacks on ports are occurring with particular intensity.

“Unfortunately, the enemy has chosen our logistics component as one of the main focuses of its efforts, aiming to simply deprive us of either logistics to the ports, logistics to the Donetsk region, or frontline logistics,” Kuleba noted.

Kuleba emphasized that the Russians are trying to destroy Ukraine’s export potential. At the same time, the Ukrainian side, in cooperation with the military, is taking measures to protect strategic facilities. In particular, the first special teams are already operating in ports and at ‘Ukrzaliznytsia’ facilities, tasked with downing enemy drones. These units are composed not of military personnel, but of members of territorial community volunteer formations (DCTF), in accordance with a government resolution.

Ukraine’s Experience in Small Air Defense Becomes a Model for the World

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that Ukraine has a unique experience in creating “small air defense” systems, which are already attracting interest from several countries, including those in the Middle East. Just a few years ago, such systems were not in use, but now their effectiveness has been proven in practice. Some Gulf countries are reaching out to Ukraine with requests for the supply of such solutions, opening new geopolitical opportunities for the state.

After the daytime drone attack on March 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Russian troops continue their attempts to break Ukraine and strike at the energy system. Earlier, in early March, Zelensky expressed readiness to assist Middle Eastern countries in defending against Iranian attacks, and Ukrainian experts are already working on the ground. According to the Financial Times, the U.S. and an unnamed Gulf country are interested in acquiring Ukrainian interceptor drones.
