A Rare 1970 Plymouth Superbird with 17,500 km Found in the USA

A unique 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird has been discovered in an old barn in Massachusetts, USA. This iconic sports car, featuring a 7.0-liter V8 Hemi engine with 425 hp, has not been on the roads for over three decades and remains in exceptional condition.

A Rarity in Near-Perfect Condition

After a thorough cleaning of the vehicle, it was found that its paint and interior are almost flawless. Of particular interest is the fact that the tires are still original from the time of manufacture, and the total mileage of the sports car over 56 years is only 17,500 km.

“The sports car has only 17,500 km on the odometer.”

The engine of the car still runs, and the Plymouth Superbird remains operational. It is the top 7.0-liter V8 Hemi engine that makes this model a true treasure for collectors. Only 1,935 of these cars were produced, with just 135 units equipped with this powerful engine. Thanks to it, the car can accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.

The History and Value of the Legendary Superbird

The Plymouth Road Runner Superbird was specifically created for participation in the famous NASCAR races, where, in the 1970s, the production of road versions of racing cars was required. The Superbird, along with the Dodge Charger Daytona, became the first production cars with a rear wing – their aerodynamic shapes allowed them to reach speeds of 300-320 km/h on the tracks. It was in the Plymouth Superbird that the famous driver Richard Petty won the championship title in 1971, and the car itself became a star in the animated film “Cars.”

Unlike on the racetracks, these cars were not in high demand in everyday life, which is why they are now true rarities. Models with low mileage and the powerful Hemi engine are particularly valued. Such cars today cost over a million dollars, and in 2022, one of these Superbirds was sold at auction for $1.65 million.

The Superbird is also known for its aerodynamic efficiency and its impact on the development of American muscle cars. Collectors and car enthusiasts around the world are on the hunt for similar “time capsules” that have survived decades without losing their original appearance and characteristics.
