Prices of Greenhouse Cucumbers in Ukraine Reach Eight-Year High

Популярний овоч українців дорожчає на очах

The cost of greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine is rapidly increasing, having already reached the level of 100–130 hryvnias per kilogram. This is 10% higher than it was a week ago and is the highest figure in at least the last eight years.

Reasons for the Price Increase and Market Situation

The main reason for the price increase is the reduction in the supply of local vegetables due to seasonal factors. Most large greenhouse complexes completed their sales of cucumbers for the current turnover by early December, while a few producers continue to sell only small batches. At the same time, prices for such products cannot compete with imports.

Despite this, the demand for cucumbers among wholesale companies and retail chains remains consistently high. However, imported products are unable to fully compensate for the shortage of domestic vegetables, which contributes to further price increases.

Price Forecast and Dynamics

According to analysts, cucumbers today cost on average 12% more than during the same period last year. Market forecasts indicate that the trend of rising prices will continue, as the main factors influencing pricing remain unchanged.
