Reasons for the Decrease in Potato Prices
Wholesale prices for potatoes in Ukraine are declining, despite farmers’ expectations of a traditional pre-New Year increase in the price of this product. Farmers had hoped for a price rise; however, wholesale companies see no grounds for increasing prices or boosting purchases. The main factor remains the decrease in demand among consumers, as noted by market analysts.
“Wholesale companies, in turn, see no reasons for raising prices or increasing the volumes of purchases of this tuber, as consumer demand for this product has noticeably decreased, analysts point out.”
Product Quality and Price Dynamics
According to experts, the slight decrease in potato prices is due not only to weak demand but also to stable supply from local producers. At the same time, most key market participants draw attention to the rather low quality characteristics of the potatoes, which also affects the pace of sales in the domestic market.
According to specialists’ estimates, in December 2025, potatoes in Ukraine are sold on average at 61% lower prices than at the end of December last year. Thus, the market demonstrates a prolonged trend of decreasing prices for this product.
