The Minister of Agriculture of Poland, Michał Kołodziejczak, expressed the intention to lease for 50 years or purchase coastal land in Odesa. This will allow Poland to establish its grain port for exporting agricultural products to Africa.

According to Kołodziejczak, this decision will be beneficial as it will enable the export of Polish and European grain via the Black Sea, where the average price per ton of wheat is PLN100 higher due to lower transportation costs to African countries. The minister also noted that the exported grain could come from regions such as Zamojszczyzna, Lubusz, and Podkarpacie, which are renowned for their fertile lands.
“We could bring Polish grain using the broad gauge that exists in Ukraine, and additionally, possibly what we would bring from Western Europe and store with us”
In addition, Kołodziejczak proposed the possibility of leasing 500,000 hectares of Ukrainian land to Polish livestock companies. He also expressed concerns about the potential accession of Ukraine to the European Union due to unknown consequences and stated that he advocates for a 10-year ban on Ukrainian investments in the Polish agri-food industry after Ukraine joins the EU.
