Increase in Defense Budget and New Opportunities for PGZ
Since the onset of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, European countries have significantly increased their defense spending. Poland, in particular, has nearly doubled its defense budget since 2022, bringing it to almost 5% of GDP. Under the SAFE defense program initiated by the European Union with funding of €150 billion, joint European security projects are being supported. According to Leśkiewicz, this opens up new prospects for PGZ – from the exchange of advanced technologies to the localization of production in partnership with the largest industrial players in Europe.
“PGZ will expand the export of portable air defense systems, artillery systems, including howitzers, as well as technologies that have proven their effectiveness in Ukraine. The company is also considering the possibility of entering the market for dual-use goods.”
Scope of PGZ’s Activities and Growth Dynamics
Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa brings together 70 enterprises, employing over 22,000 staff. The group already has partnerships with global leaders in the defense industry, such as Thales, BAE Systems, Rheinmetall, and Babcock. Cooperation encompasses ammunition production, shipbuilding, and armored vehicles. Over the past year, PGZ’s revenue increased by 36%, reaching 13.9 billion zlotys (approximately $3.8 billion), while net profit rose by 92% to 1.7 billion zlotys. The company plans to increase the share of exports and dual-use products to 33% of PGZ’s total revenue.
