The black metal market in Poland is undergoing significant transformations and demonstrating steady growth. According to last year’s results, scrap metal exports from Poland increased by 3.2% compared to 2023, reaching a record figure of 2.81 million tons. The main destinations for shipments were Turkey, India, and Pakistan. Notably, the increase in exports to Turkey was significant — 529 thousand tons, which is 130% more than the previous year and nearly three times more than in 2022.

Import Dynamics and the Role of Ukraine
Alongside the growth in exports, scrap metal imports to Poland in 2024 decreased by 15.3% — to 7.24 million tons. At the same time, there was a significant increase in imports during 2022-2023: by 26.9% (7.64 million tons) and 12% (8.55 million tons) respectively. The largest share of imports comes from European Union countries — 6.91 million tons, which is 10.7% less than the previous year.
Increasing Flow of Ukrainian Scrap
Imports of scrap metal from third countries have shown substantial growth over the past two years. Last year, this figure reached 265 thousand tons, which is 65.2% more than before. Almost the entire volume of imports from third countries consists of Ukrainian scrap: 251,030 tons in 2024, which is 57.4% more than last year. Forecasts for 2025 remain optimistic, as in the first quarter alone, imports of raw materials from Ukraine reached 68,110 tons, while in the same period last year, this figure was 57 thousand tons.
