EU plans sanctions against China for supplying engines for Russian drones, Indian components found in Russian UAVs

The European Union is preparing a new package of sanctions that could be implemented as early as this fall, aimed at China due to its support for the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine. This comes in response to recent investigations by Western media that uncovered schemes for supplying Chinese engines for drones to Russia, carried out through shell companies disguised as “industrial refrigeration units.” This allowed them to circumvent restrictions imposed by Western countries.

EU’s response to China’s actions

According to reports, the European Union was aware of the transfer of Chinese drones to the Russian Federation even before this information appeared in the media. In this regard, 15 EU member states expressed official concern to Beijing regarding such supplies. At the same time, China either denied its involvement in these operations or refused to comment on the situation.

Indian components in Russian drones

In addition to China, India may also be at risk of sanctions. According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, Indian components have been found in Russian strike drones, particularly in the “Shaheds” and “Geranias,” which Russia actively uses both on the front lines and for attacks on civilian targets.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has already responded to these allegations, stating that the export of dual-use goods from India complies with its international non-proliferation obligations.
