Madyar’s Position on the Situation with the Assets

At a press conference, Peter Madyar emphasized that he plans to begin discussions on the return of the assets only after officially taking office. According to him, there are currently issues that he considers more priority for discussion with the Ukrainian side.

“We do not know the truth; we have also seen propaganda news,” he said, adding that many details remain unclear.

Madyar stressed that he does not currently possess all the information regarding the circumstances of the asset seizure and called for patience and common sense on this matter.

Background of the Seizure of Oschadbank’s Assets

In March of this year, employees of the Ukrainian state “Oschadbank” were detained in Hungary along with two armored vehicles and transported valuables. According to official information, seven bank employees, who were making a trip between Austria and Ukraine as part of regular cooperation between banking institutions, were detained. The vehicles contained 40 million dollars, 35 million euros, and 9 kilograms of gold, all documented according to international rules for the transportation of valuables.

Subsequently, the Ukrainian employees and the transport were returned to Ukraine, but all seized valuables remained under the control of the Hungarian authorities.

Previously, Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview his intention to discuss the return of the funds with Peter Madyar, emphasizing that this money must be returned to Ukraine.
