A Nuclear Fuel Production Plant for Nuclear Power Plants Will Be Built in Ukraine

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the start of construction of a modern complex for the production of fuel assemblies for nuclear power plants. The new plant will be located within the South Ukrainian municipal territorial community. The project is being implemented with modern technologies and aims to ensure the energy independence of the country.

The Role of Innovation and International Cooperation

The production complex will operate using technology from the American company Westinghouse, which will allow Ukraine to switch to using its own nuclear fuel. This, in turn, will enhance the safety of Ukrainian nuclear power plants and reduce dependence on external suppliers.

“The construction of the complex is an important step towards Ukraine’s energy independence, as the transition to domestic fuel using Westinghouse technology will contribute to increasing the safety of the fuel component of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants,” the statement said.

Preparation for Production Launch

Before making the decision, the American company conducted a detailed analysis of the production capacities of the State Enterprise “NAEK “Energoatom” regarding the possibility of assembling fuel assemblies. In addition, a thorough environmental impact assessment of the future complex was carried out, and a technical and economic justification for the project was developed. All project documentation successfully passed state expertise, confirming the feasibility and safety of the construction.

In the near future, detailed project documentation is planned to be developed, after which the complex will undergo a comprehensive state examination to obtain final approval.
