Ukrainian military forces are actively implementing the latest types of unmanned aerial vehicles, allowing them to transform deep rear areas of Russia from relatively safe zones into new strike areas. As a result, strikes by Ukrainian drones increasingly disrupt the logistics and supply of the enemy, creating significant difficulties for Russian command in continuing combat operations.

Diversity of Drones and New Strike Zones
FPV drones with a short range conduct surveillance and carry out targeted strikes on enemy troop concentrations and equipment. At the same time, drones with a longer range regularly attack military and oil facilities located hundreds of kilometers from the front line deep into Russian territory. Currently, Ukraine is expanding the geography of its attacks, targeting objectives at medium distances — from 20 to 300 km. Warehouses, transport hubs, command points, and other important facilities are coming under fire.
Technological Advantage and Impact on the Course of the War
Experts emphasize that until recently, Russia considered these areas safe. However, the technological breakthrough in the development of Ukrainian UAVs has forced the enemy to reassess its logistics, moving warehouses and supply points further from the front line. This complicates and slows down the supply of weapons and resources to the enemy’s front-line units.
The head of the military cooperation department of Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Forces, Taras Berezovets, noted that such tactics on a large scale could significantly influence the course of the war and even “change the front line.”
Analysts believe that the new approach of Ukrainian forces to the use of drones has the potential to change the overall nature of the war. Researchers from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) emphasize that Ukraine is “actively challenging the positional nature of the war that has dominated the battlefield since 2023.” Experts do not rule out that such tactics could initiate a new phase of confrontation.
Previously, due to Ukrainian drone attacks, one of the largest oil refineries in Russia was temporarily halted, further confirming the effectiveness and strategic importance of these technologies for Ukraine.
