Design and Features of the New Coin

The obverse of the coin features a zoomorphic sculpture titled «Lion», created by the renowned Opishnya potter Vasyl Omelyanenko. On both sides of the sculpture are fragments of characteristic applied decor typical of Opishnya’s zoomorphic products. The obverse also includes the year of minting, the graphic symbol of the hryvnia, the denomination of the coin, and the Small State Emblem of Ukraine.

The reverse of the coin is adorned with a stylized composition of elements from the traditional ornamental decor of Opishnya’s clay products. At the top, the inscription «Opishnyanska Ceramics» is displayed.

Details of Release and Sale

The coin is made of nickel silver—a blend of copper, nickel, and zinc. The total mintage is up to 75,000 pieces. Each coin will be available in special souvenir packaging.

«Opishnyanska ceramics has become a significant phenomenon of national culture—both in artistic and ethnographic dimensions. In 2012, it was included in the National Register of Elements of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine, which attests to its importance as a component of cultural identity,» the description of the coin states.
