The head of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority”, Oleksandr Semyrha, reported that before the full-scale invasion by Russia, Ukraine had 13 operational seaports. Currently, only six remain operational. According to him, systematic missile and drone attacks by Russia have caused significant damage to around 400 infrastructure facilities, including docks, loading equipment, vessels, and auxiliary machinery. However, Ukrainian ports maintain their operational efficiency, performing a critically important function for the national economy.

The Need for Technical Upgrading
Semyrha emphasized the importance of active measures aimed at the technical upgrading of the fleet, digitization of processes, and improving management efficiency. This, he said, should ensure the long-term resilience of the industry. Preliminary estimates indicate that the cost of the necessary technical upgrades will amount to tens of millions of euros, and modernization projects require support from international partners.
Cooperation with Latvia
At the same time, the Ukrainian port “Chornomorsk” has signed a four-year agreement with the Latvian port “Ventspils”. This partnership aims to develop sustainable logistics, exchange experiences, and strengthen Ukraine’s connections with EU markets.
