Ministry of Health to Expand the ‘Affordable Medicines’ Program for Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases

Starting July 1, 2026, the list of medications that citizens can receive for free or with minimal co-payment under the government program ‘Affordable Medicines’ will be significantly expanded in Ukraine. The Ministry of Health has announced its intention to include all medications for outpatient treatment of cardiovascular diseases that comply with modern medical protocols in this program.

What Changes Can Patients Expect?

As noted by the Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko, there are currently about 30 medications available in the program for patients with cardiovascular conditions. After the expansion, at least 60 new medications will be added to the list. Meetings have already been held with Ukrainian pharmaceutical manufacturers to implement this initiative.

“We discussed this expansion and motivated them to apply for the reimbursement program and offer lower prices due to larger volumes,” Lyashko stated.

The minister also emphasized that the expansion of the list of medications is just part of the comprehensive state strategy to combat cardiovascular diseases. The program will cover the entire spectrum of medical assistance, including:

  • early diagnosis through the launch of the preventive initiative ‘Health Screening 40+’;
  • outpatient treatment with full provision of necessary medications through ‘Affordable Medicines’;
  • significant increase in tariffs for performing cardiac surgeries;
  • free installation of stents for patients with ischemic heart disease.

Government Support for Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that such a comprehensive approach will ensure that all patients with cardiovascular diseases receive a full range of medical and pharmaceutical services funded by the state budget.
