Metaplanet Invests an Additional $54 Million in Bitcoin, Increasing Its Portfolio to 17,595 BTC

The Japanese investment company Metaplanet has made a new large-scale purchase of bitcoins, acquiring 463 BTC for $53.7 million. Following this transaction, the company’s total cryptocurrency portfolio has grown to 17,595 BTC.

According to official data, the average cost of the latest purchase was 17.26 million yen (approximately $115,895) per bitcoin. The total value of all assets acquired by the company reached 261.27 billion yen (about $1.78 billion), with an average purchase price of 14.84 million yen ($101,422) per BTC.

At the time of preparing this material, the market price of bitcoin stands at $114,293. This allows Metaplanet to be in a zone of unrealized profit, estimated at approximately $231 million.

From June 30 to August 4, 2025, the company purchased 3,284 BTC. Metaplanet is not stopping there — by the end of 2026, it plans to increase its crypto assets to 270,000 BTC.

Profitability Dynamics and Market Position

According to financial reports, the profitability of Metaplanet’s investments in bitcoin over the last few quarters has been as follows:

  • from July 1 to September 30, 2024 — 41.7%;
  • from October 1 to December 31, 2024 — 309.8%;
  • from January 1 to March 31, 2025 — 95.6%;
  • from April 1 to June 30, 2025 — 129.4%;
  • from July 1 to July 14, 2025 — 24.6%.

Metaplanet may claim the eighth position among the largest public and private companies that own bitcoin.
