Attempt to pass drugs and actions of law enforcement

The perpetrator had previously arranged with the inmate to pass methadone during the court hearing. To do this, he placed the tablets in a plastic container, trying to disguise them as ordinary medicine. During the hearing, the man approached the accused, who was in a special enclosure under guard, and handed him the container with the tablets.

“During the hearing, the suspect approached the accused, who was in a special enclosure under guard, and handed him the container with the tablets. The actions of the men were noticed by soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine, who demanded to show the contents of the container. In an attempt to conceal the prohibited substances, the accused opened the container and began to put the tablets in his mouth, but law enforcement officers stopped him. Some of the drugs fell to the floor,” the police reported.

During the transfer, some of the tablets fell to the floor, which drew the attention of the National Guard soldiers. They immediately stopped the attempt to pass the prohibited substances, seized the container, and conducted a search. As a result, law enforcement officers discovered 52 tablets, of which 26 contained a potent narcotic substance – methadone.

Criminal liability and other cases

The man who made the transfer was detained at the scene. He was charged under an article that provides for criminal liability for the illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their analogs. The penalties under this article provide for imprisonment of up to eight years.

Previously, the police reported other cases of detaining individuals involved in the illegal drug trade. In particular, 25-year-old Odesa resident Ivan Kuchuk was arrested in the USA on suspicion of distributing methamphetamine. Additionally, in April, the National Police conducted large-scale searches in the “U420” network, which sold dangerous substances disguised as souvenirs in Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine.
