“On the 40th anniversary of the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the city authorities will allocate over 53 million UAH to support citizens affected by the disaster. This year, one-time targeted payments will be received by 42,000 individuals.”
Who Will Receive Payments and in What Amounts
The financial assistance is provided within the framework of the city’s targeted program “Care. Towards Kyivans” and is aimed at socially vulnerable residents of Kyiv, as well as internally displaced persons who are registered and actually reside in the capital.
The amount of payments depends on the category of victims:
- 2,500 UAH — for individuals with first-group disabilities related to the Chernobyl disaster (1st category);
- 1,500 UAH — for children with disabilities, orphans, children who lost one or both parents due to the disaster, as well as individuals with second and third-group disabilities (1st category);
- 1,200 UAH — for individuals belonging to the second category of victims of the Chernobyl disaster;
- 1,000 UAH — for the spouses of deceased participants in the disaster cleanup operations.
Conditions for Receiving Payments and Features
The city administration clarified that if a citizen holds multiple statuses as a victim, the payment will be calculated only at the highest amount — the sums will not be combined.
The implemented program aims to support the most vulnerable categories of the population in Kyiv ahead of the 40th anniversary of the largest man-made disaster in the history of Ukraine.
