The airline KLM has decided to cancel approximately 80 flights within Europe in response to a significant increase in aviation fuel prices.

Reasons for Flight Reductions
The airline’s management explains that the changes will primarily affect popular routes that have several flights per day, including those to London and Düsseldorf. The company emphasizes that these routes have temporarily lost profitability due to the substantial rise in fuel costs. Previously, KLM was also forced to increase fuel surcharges, setting them at 100 euros for long-haul routes and 10 euros for intra-European flights.
“Next month, KLM will cancel eighty round trips. These are flights within Europe that are operated several times a day, including to London and Düsseldorf. KLM states that these flights can currently not be operated profitably due to the rising cost of aviation fuel.”
Impact on Passengers
The first cancellations are scheduled for the end of April, when passenger traffic typically increases due to the start of the spring break. KLM assures that most of the canceled flights were not fully booked, so the majority of passengers will be quickly rebooked onto alternative flights. As a result, people will be able to reach their destinations on the same day without significant delays.
It is worth noting that the company had previously implemented additional charges to compensate for rising fuel costs. The increase in energy prices is partly linked to the crisis in the Middle East, which has cost the European Union over 22 billion euros.
