EU Invests in Joint Drone Production with Ukraine and Strengthens Border Protection

The European Union plans a large-scale expansion of drone production and counter-drone technologies, involving Ukraine in this process. This was announced by the European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, who emphasized the need for “rapid industrial production scaling” to enhance the EU’s defense capabilities.

Investments and Joint Projects with Ukraine

The first stage of this strategic plan will involve an investment of 400 million euros, aimed at developing the capabilities of EU countries in drone production and counter-drone measures. This will enable member states to respond more effectively to new threats arising from frequent sightings of unidentified drones over critical infrastructure in various EU countries.

International Information Exchange System and Ukraine’s Role

As part of the initiative, an international real-time information exchange system will be established to monitor suspicious or unauthorized drone activity. This will allow authorities to quickly identify and neutralize potential threats, thereby enhancing security, especially along the EU’s eastern border.

Ukraine plays a key role in this process. The Ukrainian defense industry is preparing to export its products, including combat drones. By 2026, Kyiv plans to open ten export centers for Ukrainian military equipment in Europe, with a primary focus on drones.

The EU will begin “mass production” of drones and counter-UAV technologies. This involves “rapid industrial production scaling.”

Additionally, production of Ukrainian drones will commence in Germany as early as February, marking another step towards deepening cooperation between Ukraine and EU countries in the fields of security and technology.
