How Much Firewood Costs in Ukraine in October 2025: Price Overview and Tips

In Ukraine, a significant portion of households continues to use solid fuel boilers and stoves for heating, where firewood remains the primary type of fuel. Its cost in 2025 varies significantly depending on several key factors, including wood species, harvesting method, sales region, and delivery format.

Factors Affecting Firewood Prices

The price of firewood in Ukraine is not fixed and changes depending on the type of wood: hardwoods (oak, hornbeam, acacia) are more expensive than softwoods (pine, alder). Additionally, split firewood traditionally has a higher price than unsplit (logs), as its preparation requires more effort. The region is also an important factor: in Kyiv and the surrounding area, prices are often higher than in some other regions, though this is not always the case.

According to the state online firewood store “DrovayE”, the price for unsplit firewood in October 2025 was as follows:

  • coniferous species (e.g., pine): 755 UAH/cubic meter in the Cherkasy region, 1037–1291 UAH/cubic meter in the Kyiv region, 1575 UAH/cubic meter in the Chernivtsi region;
  • hard deciduous species: 1,035 UAH/cubic meter in the Cherkasy region, 1291–1451 UAH/cubic meter in Kyiv, 1340–1845 UAH/cubic meter in the Chernivtsi region.

On commercial online platforms and classifieds, you can find offers that are both cheaper and more expensive. The cost also depends on transportation and demand, which traditionally increases before the start of the heating season.

Which Firewood is Most Economical and Energy Efficient

When choosing firewood for heating, it is important to consider not only the price but also the heat output. Hardwoods such as oak, hornbeam, and acacia are considered the most efficient. They have a dense structure, retain heat better, and burn longer. Coniferous (e.g., pine) and soft deciduous species (alder) burn faster and release less energy, making them less advantageous for prolonged heating. Additionally, pine produces a lot of soot, which can lead to more frequent chimney cleaning.

“When purchasing solid fuel, it is advised not only to calculate, for example, how much 5 cubic meters of firewood will cost but also to verify how much firewood you actually received. Such calculation formulas are also available on the ‘DrovayE’ website – for both split and unsplit firewood.”

Experts recommend buying firewood in advance to avoid price spikes that may be triggered by a sudden increase in demand, cold weather, or rising transportation costs. If the winter is harsh or there is a shortage of alternative energy sources, the price of firewood may increase by several hundred UAH per cubic meter.

Choosing the optimal type of firewood and purchasing it in a timely manner will help ensure comfortable warmth in winter and avoid unnecessary expenses.
