Germany has announced its intention to provide Ukraine with a new military aid package totaling 5 billion euros. This information was made public by the press service of the German Ministry of Defense.

The allocated funds will be used to support Ukraine’s defense sector, specifically for the production of long-range weapons and financing military projects. Additionally, the supply of previously promised ammunition is planned, along with an expansion of their range for air defense systems. Furthermore, part of the funds will be directed towards the purchase of medical equipment.
Support for Weapon Production
It is planned that a significant portion of the new weapons will be manufactured by 2025, but some systems may be transferred to the Ukrainian army in the near future. Since these systems are already in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, no additional training for the military will be necessary.
The financial support is secured by a memorandum signed by the defense ministers of Germany and Ukraine — Boris Pistorius and Rustem Umerov. In addition, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has signed a contract with the German company Diehl for the supply of air defense systems and the necessary ammunition.
Strategy for the Development of the Ukrainian Defense Industry
The assistance will be financed from a budget already approved by the German parliament. A separate agreement has also been signed regarding the financing of the production of long-range weapons of Ukrainian manufacture, which is part of a broader strategy for the development of the Ukrainian defense industry.
This agreement resulted from negotiations between President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which took place on May 28 in Berlin. After the meeting, Merz confirmed that Germany would continue to support Ukraine, particularly in the area of developing long-range weapons.
“It is worth noting that in May, Germany provided Ukraine with another package of military assistance, which included ammunition and missiles, small arms, demining equipment, and more,” the press release stated.
Among other things, the new aid package includes 66 mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles (MRAP), 4 vehicles with kinetic protection, as well as 3 wheeled howitzers Zuzana-2, the project of which is co-financed with Denmark and Norway.
