Gas tariff for households will remain unchanged from May 1, 2026

From May 1, 2026, Ukrainian consumers will continue to pay for gas at the current price of 7.96 UAH per cubic meter. This fixed tariff applies to the gas supply for most households served by Naftogaz of Ukraine.

Reasons for the stable price and the impact of the war

The preservation of the current gas price is due not only to the company’s policy but also to legislative restrictions. During the state of martial law, the government is not allowed to change the gas tariff or the cost of its transportation. This regulatory model is temporary and, as acknowledged by Naftogaz and government representatives, cannot remain in effect after the war ends. Ukraine’s international partners are already expecting a transition to market pricing mechanisms.

“Maintaining a fixed price for households remains one of the government’s key priorities,” said Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, commenting on negotiations with Naftogaz in March.

Possible tariff changes in the future

Before the full-scale invasion, the gas market was significantly more competitive: various suppliers operated, and Naftogaz served only about 10% of consumers. Today, the company supplies gas to nearly 98% of residential customers, and tariffs are set by the government and according to current legislation.

After the war ends, the price of gas may change; however, no specific calculations have been published at this time. The transition to European market prices is not a straightforward solution, as Ukraine partially meets demand with its own production, which requires significant investment due to infrastructure damage from hostilities.

Some experts predict that gas, electricity, and heating tariffs may rise as early as this summer. In particular, the gas tariff could increase to 10 UAH per cubic meter, representing an increase of approximately 25%. At the same time, heating costs could double: for an apartment of 50 m², this would be around 5000 UAH, and for 80 m² – up to 8000 UAH.
