Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Romania expressed their opposition during the EU Council meeting on agriculture regarding the new trade agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, which is being prepared based on a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). The countries believe that this agreement could negatively impact the agricultural markets of the EU.

European Politicians’ Position on the Agreement
European Commissioner for Agriculture Christoph Hansen assured that signing this agreement aligns with the interests of EU farmers. However, the five mentioned countries insist on making amendments to the already agreed draft trade agreement with Ukraine.
“At the same time, European Commissioner for Agriculture Christoph Hansen is convinced that this agreement serves the interests of European farmers.”
Potential Resumption of Import Ban
The Polish government stated that it does not rule out the possibility of reinstating the national ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products if the need arises. A similar ban was previously in place in the Polish market. Warsaw also expressed dissatisfaction that the European Commission did not agree on new terms of the agreement with member states before concluding negotiations with Kyiv.
