In the capital of Estonia, Tallinn, cooperation that has facilitated payments for housing costs and translation services for Ukrainian refugees who have received temporary protection will conclude in May of this year. This was reported by Ekonomichna Pravda, citing the Estonian media resource ERR.

Previously, Ukrainian refugees were able to receive a one-time compensation to cover rent, allowing them to independently find permanent housing in the country.
“Support is not disappearing; it is becoming more targeted and stable,” said Liis Paloorts, head of the migration department at the Social Insurance Board.
She noted that Estonia is gradually returning to a standard procedure, where assistance is primarily provided to those who apply for international or temporary protection, lack support in the country, and reside in state accommodation centers while their cases are being processed.
Additionally, Liis Paloorts mentioned that after the conclusion of payments in Tallinn, the Social Insurance Board plans to consider ending similar agreements with other local communities to ensure a unified approach to providing assistance across the country. This will also ensure that support for Ukrainian refugees is not dependent on their place of residence, but solely on their need for assistance when relocating from the accommodation center.
Since the program’s launch in June 2022 and until April 2025, nearly 11,000 families of Ukrainian refugees have received this compensation, including 1,710 households in 2024, of which 62% utilized support in Tallinn. The maximum amount of compensation was up to 1,200 euros per household.
It was previously reported that in the event of a ceasefire in Ukraine, nearly four million Ukrainians currently benefiting from temporary protection in the European Union may lose their legal status. There is currently no specific plan regarding their future stay.
