Electricity Imports in Ukraine Increased by 41% in February 2026, Reaching a Record High

In February 2026, Ukraine significantly increased its electricity imports, reaching a new record level. The country imported 1.26 million MWh during the month, which is 41% more compared to January of the same year, when this figure was 894 thousand MWh.

Main Directions of Electricity Imports

The lion’s share of imported electricity came from Hungary, accounting for 49% of the total volumes, with imports from Hungary increasing by 54% compared to January 2026. This indicates a strengthening of energy cooperation between Ukraine and European Union countries, particularly Hungary, which remains a key partner for Ukraine in terms of electricity supply.

Absence of Electricity Exports

In February, there were no electricity exports from Ukraine, as was the case in the previous month. This trend has persisted for the second consecutive month, which may be related to the country’s internal energy needs and the necessity to ensure stable energy supply for consumers.

“In February 2026, Ukraine once again achieved record levels of electricity imports – 1.26 million MWh. Compared to January 2026, the imported volumes for the month increased by 41%,” the statement reads.

Earlier, in January 2026, compared to December 2025, Ukraine had already demonstrated a 40% increase in electricity imports. At the same time, exports were absent during these months.

The increase in import volumes is evidence of high demand for electricity in the domestic market and underscores the importance of international cooperation to ensure the stability of the country’s energy system.
