US Declares Exhaustion of Options for New Sanctions Against Russia, Ukrainian Companies Targeted

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States has practically exhausted its potential for imposing new sanctions against the Russian Federation. According to him, further efforts from Washington will focus on effectively ensuring compliance with existing restrictions, particularly in the fight against the so-called “shadow fleet.”

Emphasis on Sanction Compliance and the Role of European Partners

Marco Rubio emphasized that from now on, the main work of the sanctions coalition will concern monitoring the enforcement of existing measures. He highlighted the need to intensify efforts from European countries, as a significant portion of vessels circumventing sanctions operate near European shores.

“A significant number of vessels operate closer to their territories.”

At the same time, the US Department of the Treasury announced the imposition of sanctions on over 30 individuals and organizations from eight countries — Iran, the UAE, Turkey, China, Hong Kong, India, Germany, as well as against two companies registered in Ukraine. These companies are suspected of assisting Iran in the development of missiles and drones. The measures aim to complicate the production of Iranian Shahed drones and missiles, which Iran has been supplying to Russia for combat operations since 2022.

New Sanctions from Canada Targeting the Russian Fleet and Cyber Infrastructure

Canada has also intensified its sanctions pressure by imposing restrictions on over 20 individuals and organizations, as well as nearly 100 vessels that are part of the Russian shadow fleet. The new measures target the energy sector, financial intermediaries of Russia, and aim to restrict the conventional and hybrid military capabilities of the aggressor state. For the first time, companies providing cyber infrastructure for Russia’s hybrid operations against Ukraine, as well as several enterprises involved in liquefied gas, have also been sanctioned.
