Details of the Decision on Duties for Chinese Wire Rod

The Australian Anti-Dumping Commission has completed the second review of measures against the dumping of wire rod from China. As a result, the Minister for Industry and Innovation, along with the Minister for Science, decided to keep the protective measures in place for Australian manufacturers. This step was prompted by a statement from InfraBuild (Newcastle) Pty Ltd, which filed a relevant complaint in May 2025.

Conditions for Applying Duties and Investigation Results

According to the decision made, a fixed anti-dumping duty rate of 13.9% will be established for all Chinese exporters of wire rod starting from April 23, 2026. The duty will be applied using a combined methodology that will provide additional protection for the Australian market.

During the investigation, data on dumping practices was thoroughly analyzed for the period from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. Additionally, experts assessed the impact of Chinese wire rod imports on the local industry starting from April 1, 2020.

“Following the application submitted by InfraBuild (Newcastle) Pty Ltd in May 2025, the Minister for Industry and Innovation and the Minister for Science decided to maintain protection for the national industry.”

Thus, the introduction of updated duties will help balance market conditions for local manufacturers and limit the impact of unfair competition from China.
