Details of the Collaboration Between DP World and Rosatom

DP World owns about 40% of container ports in various countries around the world. Through this new partnership, Rosatom will gain access to this global infrastructure. As noted in a statement from a Rosatom representative, DP World will also work on increasing the cargo base, particularly in the direction of developing the Northern Sea Route.

“DP World owns about 40% of container ports worldwide, and as part of the establishment of the joint company, Rosatom will gain access to them. DP World will also ensure an increase in the cargo base, including for the Northern Sea Route.”

The agreement involves the participation of subsidiaries from both sides: Global Logistics LLC (from Rosatom) and DP World Russia FZE (from DP World), as well as Far Eastern Shipping Company, which is part of the FESCO transport group. 92.5% of FESCO’s shares are owned by Rosatom. Additionally, since 2023, Rosatom and DP World have been collaborating within the joint venture International Container Logistics LLC, where the controlling stake also belongs to the Russian side.

The Northern Sea Route and the Strategic Role of the Port Operator

Since 2018, Rosatom has taken on the role of operator for the development of the Northern Sea Route infrastructure, including managing the nuclear icebreaker fleet. This maritime route is the shortest path between Europe and Asia and runs along the northern coast of Russia.

DP World, owned by the UAE government, operates over 60 port terminals worldwide and manages logistics and economic centers with a capacity of over 90 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units). In 2020, DP World acquired a 51% stake in the TIS container terminal at the Port of Yuzhny near Odessa; however, in March 2026, the company completely exited the Ukrainian market, selling its stake.
