Vucic: Possible Peace Plan Includes Ukraine’s EU Membership Starting in 2027

Ukraine’s accession to the European Union could be part of a potential peace plan for resolving the armed conflict with Russia. This was stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic while commenting on a possible scenario for achieving peace between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Ukraine Could Join the EU in 2027

According to Vucic, the discussed plan includes the possibility of Ukraine joining the EU as of January 1, 2027. He emphasized that he cannot confirm the accuracy of this information, but he does not consider it fabricated. Vucic noted that this is about a so-called peace plan, which will require commitments not only from the parties to the conflict but also from a significant portion of the international community.

“I am now relaying what I have heard somewhere. I wouldn’t say it’s untrue. Part of this plan involves a peaceful resolution that must be implemented not only by the two parties to the conflict but also by the international community. One of the points is for Ukraine to become a member of the European Union starting January 1, 2027 – effectively ‘tomorrow.’ If they want the peace plan to work, to stop the killings and everything else, Ukraine must become an EU member,” said the President of Serbia.

Skepticism About EU Support

Despite discussing such a scenario, Vucic expressed doubts about its implementation. He believes that some EU member states, particularly Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia, may not support Ukraine’s swift accession to the Union. Vucic suggested that existing EU accession procedures might need to be altered to realize this plan, even if it contradicts the established rules of the organization.
