The Ukrzaliznytsia app has introduced a new branded train ‘Sakura’ on the Uzhhorod – Kyiv route. Passengers can choose tickets for train No. 081L, which also offers specialized women’s and children’s compartments. Ticket prices start from 466 hryvnias.

Features of the branded train ‘Sakura’
The project is implemented with the support of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This branded train symbolizes the friendship between Ukraine and Japan and expresses gratitude to the Japanese people for their support. The chosen route connects cities where cherry blossoms bloom in spring — a symbol of Japanese culture. Before departure, the popular Japanese song ‘Sakura Sake’ by Arashi plays, adding to the atmosphere of the journey.
The train cars are equipped for the convenience of all passenger categories: there is a separate women’s compartment, a children’s car with a changing table, modern vacuum toilets, charging outlets for gadgets, a call button for the conductor, adjustable lighting, and a ramp for people with reduced mobility.
“The train is positioned as a sign of friendship and gratitude to the Japanese people for their support of Ukraine and the railway in particular. It connects two cities where cherry blossoms bloom in spring — the flower symbol of Japan.”
Background and additional innovations
The idea of launching a themed train on the Kyiv – Uzhhorod route was discussed back in February with the participation of representatives from the Uzhhorod City Council and the Embassy of Japan. At that time, Ukrzaliznytsia announced that details of the project would be revealed in spring, ahead of the cherry blossom season. Uzhhorod has long been famous for its avenues of Japanese cherry trees, which attract thousands of tourists from various regions of Ukraine and abroad every year.
In addition to launching the branded train, Ukrzaliznytsia has recently equipped its trains with new evacuation tools. The new equipment includes flashlights, glow sticks, loudspeakers, whistles, raincoats, and additional blankets, enhancing passenger safety during travels.
