‘Ukrenergo’ Restores Power Supply to Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant After Emergency Shutdown

"Укренерго" відновило роботу лінії електропередачі на ЗАЕС

Specialists from the National Energy Company ‘Ukrenergo’ have successfully completed repair work on the high-voltage power line that supplies electricity to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. As a result, the plant is once again receiving electricity from territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.

Restoration of Power Supply to ZNPP

During the emergency situation caused by network damage, the ZNPP was forced to operate for several hours on diesel generators. As emphasized by the company, diesel generators are a backup source for the critical life-support systems of the plant. Only after stabilizing the situation and reducing safety risks were emergency restoration works made possible.

“After several hours of operating on diesel generators, the ZNPP is again receiving power from territory controlled by the Ukrainian government,” the statement reads.

Occupation and Challenges for Energy Workers

Due to the temporary occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant by the Russian Federation, access to the facility and the conduct of repair and restoration work are constantly complicated. ‘Ukrenergo’ emphasizes that delays in the start of work are related to the high level of danger for personnel involved in addressing emergencies in areas controlled by occupying forces.

Stable power supply is critically important for ensuring the safe operation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and maintaining the functionality of its systems.
