Ukrainian Metallurgists Invest in Energy Independence and Environmental Sustainability

The company “Metinvest” has announced the launch of 19 MW gas turbine installations at the Northern and Central Mining and Processing Plants by the end of May. The total investment in gas generation for this year will amount to 26 million US dollars. In addition, in 2025-2026, “Metinvest” plans to invest 18.1 million dollars in the construction of a solar power plant (SPP) with a capacity of 37 MW at the Central Mining and Processing Plant and “Kametstal”.

This is reported by Finway

It is expected that the annual savings from self-generation will amount to 8.5 million dollars for the gas installations and 4.9 million dollars for the SPP. According to forecasts, within 3-4 years, “Metinvest”, the largest consumer of electricity in Ukraine, will be able to cover 50% of its needs through its own generation. Last year, the company’s electricity consumption averaged 672 MW, while in 2021 this figure was 1,405 MW.

Strategy of the Dnipro Metallurgical Plant

For its part, the Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DCH Group) has presented a comprehensive modernization strategy within the framework of the European “green course”. The main stages of this strategy include the construction of an electric steelmaking complex, a transition to renewable energy sources, and the cessation of coke chemical production. DMZ plans to install a solar power plant with a capacity of 30 MW, with investments of about 15 million dollars.
