Ukrainian Exports Decreased by 4.2% in the First Half of 2025

According to the results of the first half of 2025, Ukraine exported goods worth 20 billion US dollars, which is 4.2% less than in the same period of the previous year. At the same time, imports amounted to 38.6 billion dollars, exceeding the figures for January-June 2024 by 15.6%. As a result, Ukraine’s negative trade balance increased to 18.51 billion dollars (in 2024, this figure was 12.43 billion dollars).

Export Dynamics of Major Commodity Groups

The largest growth in exports was recorded in the category of electrical machines — up 12.9%, reaching 1.25 billion dollars. The volumes of exports of ferrous metals also increased by 5% (to 1.54 billion dollars) and fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin by 2.6% (to 3.16 billion dollars). In contrast, the export of grain crops in the first half of 2025 decreased by 24.2% compared to the same period last year, totaling 3.99 billion dollars.

Imports: Key Drivers of Growth

Significant growth in imports compared to the first half of 2024 was driven by supplies of electrical machines, which increased by 70.7% to reach 5.56 billion dollars. A substantial increase was also recorded in the category of mineral fuels, oils, and their processing products — by 21% (5.14 billion dollars). The production of land transport means, excluding railways, added 7.7% (4.19 billion dollars), while imports of nuclear reactors, boilers, and machines grew by 7.3% (3.35 billion dollars).

In the first half of 2025, Ukraine exported goods worth $20 billion, which is 4.2% less compared to January-June last year, and imported $38.6 billion (+15.6%), according to the State Statistics Service. Thus, the negative balance amounted to $18.51 billion (last year it was $12.43 billion).
