Ukraine to receive three tranches of EU macro-financial assistance by the end of 2026

By the end of 2026, Ukraine will receive €8.35 billion in macro-financial support from the European Union. This funding will be provided in the form of three tranches, the amounts of which have been determined by a recent decision of the EU Council.

Distribution of payments and tranche schedule

According to information provided by a European official, the first tranche will amount to €3.2 billion, the second to €3.7 billion, and the third to €1.45 billion. The first payment is expected to arrive by the end of June 2026, although earlier disbursement is also possible. The second payment may be made shortly after the end of summer, while the third is scheduled for late autumn. This distribution is related to the fact that Ukraine’s financial needs are higher in the first two-thirds of the year, as confirmed by a joint analysis from experts of the International Monetary Fund, the EU, and the Ukrainian side.

“Regarding the payments under the macro-financial assistance, they are fixed by the implementation decision of the EU Council adopted today.”

Total support volume and additional payments

It is known that by the end of 2026, the total volume of financial assistance for Ukraine from the EU will reach €45 billion. Of this amount, €16.7 billion will be allocated for budget support, and €28.3 billion for defense needs. The budget support will be divided into two equal parts: €8.35 billion in the form of macro-financial assistance, and the same amount under the Ukraine Facility program.

It is also noted that as early as the beginning of June, Ukraine can expect another payment from the EU of €2.7 billion under the Ukraine Facility program. This amount is not included in the macro-financial assistance approved by the current decision but will play an important role in ensuring the liquidity of the Ukrainian economy.

Earlier, European Commission spokesperson Balazs Ujvari reported plans to provide €16.7 billion in budget support in 2026, including €8.35 billion under macro-financial support and the Ukraine Facility program.
