In Ukraine, over 760 MW of new distributed gas generation was introduced in 2025

Throughout 2025, municipal enterprises, as well as private and state sectors in Ukraine, commissioned 762 MW of distributed gas generation capacity. The development of a decentralized energy system has become one of the country’s main goals amid the war, highlighting the strategic importance of energy independence and resilience.

Structure of Distributed Generation and the Role of Solar Power Plants

Distributed generation in Ukraine includes gas power plants, renewable energy facilities, and modern energy storage systems. The largest number of new power plants were built by households. These are primarily solar power plants with capacities ranging from 5 to 30 kW, operating under the “green tariff” model or as active consumers, receiving government support through a program of interest-free loans.

“Currently, the largest number of stations has been built by households. These are solar power plants with capacities ranging from 5 to 30 kW and are implemented under the green tariff model or the active consumer model with government support within the framework of the state program of interest-free loans,” the Ministry of Energy noted.

Business Participation and International Support for Energy

Businesses, state, and municipal structures are implementing their own projects considering the needs of domestic consumption. In these segments, solar power plants and cogeneration units with capacities ranging from 100 kW to 2 MW dominate. For the further development of the industry, the state is actively collaborating with international donors, particularly through the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine, which allows for the implementation of more energy projects and enhances the resilience of the national energy system.
