Ukraine and Russia Agree to Temporary Ceasefire Near Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

Ukraine and the Russian Federation have reached an agreement on a temporary ceasefire in the area of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). The purpose of the ceasefire is to facilitate repair work on the backup power lines, which are crucial for the stable energy supply of the facility.

Ceasefire Conditions and Progress of Repair Work

According to a statement from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the current ceasefire was achieved through the mediation of this organization. It covers only the territory around the ZNPP and is aimed at the safe restoration of the backup power supply line with a voltage of 330 kV. The safety of the repair crews is ensured by conducting demining operations in the adjacent areas.

“Demining work is ongoing to ensure safe access for repair crews,” said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

Status of Power Supply and Radiation Levels

According to Reuters, representatives of the Russian Federation reported that one of the main external power lines remains operational, while restoring the other will take at least a week. Meanwhile, the radiation level in the vicinity of the Zaporizhzhia NPP is stable and within normal limits, as confirmed by international observers.

The temporary cessation of hostilities creates conditions for the prompt and safe conduct of the necessary work to ensure the energy security of the facility and the surrounding region.
