Cabinet Allows Avoidance of Power Outages with Distributed Generation

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has introduced new rules that allow Ukrainians to avoid power outages, provided that the majority of energy consumers are supplied by distributed generation.

Conditions for Stable Electricity Supply

As explained by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, if at least 80% of subscribers connected to a single power line receive electricity from distributed generation, such lines will not be subject to scheduled hourly outages. This means that residents of buildings, offices, and other facilities that meet this requirement will be protected from planned electricity supply restrictions.

Control and Incentives for Using Alternative Energy

The government is thus encouraging Ukrainians to implement distributed generation – the installation of solar panels, generators, or other energy sources that can meet their own electricity needs and support the overall energy system of the country.

“We are also introducing an effective mechanism that guarantees that the benefits will be enjoyed by those who have the right to them. The distribution system operator (regional energy company, – UNIAN) will analyze the actual volumes of coverage by distributed generation for consumers. If they are less than 80%, scheduled hourly outages will be applied to such lines,” emphasized Shmyhal.

Thus, the state aims not only to enhance energy security but also to motivate citizens and businesses to adopt modern electricity production technologies.
