Expansion of Energy Cooperation
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported that the agreements involve increasing the volumes of imports of this strategic energy resource from the Baltic Sea region. LNG supplies can come from both American and Middle Eastern producers, allowing for the diversification of energy supply sources and strengthening Ukraine’s energy security.
“More liquefied natural gas will be supplied to Ukraine from the Baltic. We reached an agreement on the long-term supply of LNG through the Klaipeda terminal during intergovernmental consultations in Vilnius.”
First Experience and Future Prospects
The Ukrainian company Naftogaz already has experience in receiving liquefied natural gas through Klaipeda. In February of last year, the Naftogaz group imported American LNG through this terminal for the first time. The new agreements will allow for expanded cooperation and ensure stable supplies of this energy resource, which is an important step for the independence of the country’s gas market and strengthening partnerships between Ukraine and Lithuania.
