The USA and Ukraine are negotiating a multibillion-dollar drone deal

A Ukrainian delegation recently visited Washington to discuss a potential large-scale agreement with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. The aim of the negotiations is to establish a mechanism whereby Ukraine will provide the United States access to its combat drone technologies in exchange for royalties or other forms of compensation. The value of this deal could reach billions of dollars. Even if basic agreements are reached, finalizing the details may take several months.

Ukrainian Drones — A New Standard for the USA

Although the USA already has high-tech drones, Ukraine has significant experience in mass-producing inexpensive yet highly effective unmanned aerial vehicles that have proven their effectiveness on the battlefield. A representative of the U.S. administration emphasized that such cooperation would enable U.S. forces to gain a competitive advantage through Ukrainian innovations in the UAV sector.

For Ukraine, this collaboration opens up the opportunity to acquire modern American weaponry. In particular, Kyiv is interested in Patriot missile defense systems, HIMARS rocket systems, ATACMS systems, as well as multirole fighters.

Megadeal: Expanding Military Support

The potential drone deal could be part of a broader military cooperation package between Ukraine and the USA. President Zelensky has previously emphasized that Ukraine hopes to conclude a so-called “megadeal” with Washington for arms supplies worth tens of billions of dollars. Among the priorities are long-range missiles that will allow for powerful strikes against military targets on the territory of the Russian Federation in the future.

“The megadeal,” as President Zelensky stated earlier, is expected to allow Ukraine to purchase weapons from the USA worth tens of billions of dollars, including long-range missiles that will enable more powerful strikes against Russian territory.
