Tax Authorities Uncover Large-Scale Tax Evasion Scheme in Home Appliance Retail Chain

The tax service has uncovered a complex tax evasion scheme within a large chain of home appliance stores. During the investigation, it was established that dozens of individual entrepreneurs operated under a single brand, working under a simplified taxation system. Some financial transactions were conducted outside the official accounting records, allowing them to conceal the actual revenue volumes.

Violations Involving Fake Receipts

In March, specialists from the State Tax Service conducted a series of test purchases. As a result, it was found that customers were issued receipts from software cash registers that merely imitated genuine fiscal documents. It turned out that these transactions were not recorded on the tax service’s fiscal server, indicating attempts to hide the true sales volume.

“Such transactions were not recorded on the tax service’s fiscal server, which indicates the concealment of actual sales volumes,” the tax authorities noted.

During additional inspections, over 20 instances of using counterfeit receipts created with special software were documented. This allowed the chain of stores to evade taxation on a significant portion of their income and reduce their tax burden.

Identified Violations of Labor Legislation and Further Actions

In addition to financial abuses, tax officials also identified violations of labor legislation: six employees were found to be working without official employment contracts. Inspections are ongoing, and preliminary estimates suggest that the amount of fines could reach around 3 million hryvnias.

Following the inspection, all case materials will be forwarded to law enforcement agencies for further investigation and to hold those responsible accountable.

Previously, the tax service had already uncovered similar manipulations with accounting documents in the retail trade of meat and meat products, where a scheme of substituting genuine receipts with imitations was also used.
