Survey: 65% of Ukrainians Do Not Support Sides in the US and Israel’s War Against Iran

The majority of Ukrainian citizens remain neutral regarding the war between the US, Israel, and Iran. According to a study conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), 65% of Ukrainians stated that they do not support either side of the conflict. Support for the US and Israel was expressed by 22% of respondents, while 7% supported Iran. Another 7% of respondents were unable to provide an answer or are unaware of this conflict.

Ukrainians’ Attitudes Towards the Conflict in the Middle East

KIIS Executive Director Anton Grushetsky noted the dynamics of public opinion. According to him, since 2023, Ukrainians’ sympathies towards Israel have gradually decreased – from overwhelming support following the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack to the current predominant lack of support for joint actions by the US and Israel against the Iranian regime.

“Thus, the majority of Ukrainians – 65% – claim that they do not support either side. At the same time, support for the US and Israel is expressed by 22%, and for Iran – 7%. Another 7% were unable to answer the question (or are unaware of the conflict).”

Grushetsky also noted that this year respondents were asked about the joint actions of the US and Israel, rather than just Israel, as was the case in 2023 and 2025. He emphasized that criticism from part of Ukrainian society towards US leadership may influence the perception of the conflict, as well as the assessment of the actions of American President Donald Trump.

Consequences of the Conflict and Foreign Policy Positions

According to the expert, the war in the Middle East has led to rising oil prices and a weakening of US sanctions against Russia, which provides it with additional opportunities to continue the war against Ukraine. This, in Grushetsky’s opinion, can explain the low popularity of the US-Israel war against Iran among the Ukrainian public. At the same time, he stressed that “allied or at least constructive” partnership relations between Ukraine and Israel are quite natural.

According to KIIS data, the survey was conducted through telephone interviews from April 20 to April 27, 2026, in territories controlled by the Ukrainian government. A total of 1005 respondents from various regions of the country participated in the study.

It is worth noting that after the start of the war between the US, Israel, and Iran on February 28, 2026, Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz — a strategic route through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied gas volumes are transported. On April 13, the US imposed a maritime blockade on Iran. US President Donald Trump stated that the blockade will continue until a corresponding agreement is reached.
